Volvo CE skid steer loaders are being used for road demarcation purposes in California
A contractor in the US state of California is using skid steer loaders from 359 Volvo CE to help in its line painting operations. The machines are being used to carry out major road marking projects in Southern California.

The first machine bought by the firm has been used on the I-5 highway. Driving along the centre double line, the skid steer loader is used to remove the reflective pavement markers from the asphalt and pop them into the 1.5m bucket. To boost performance, contractor Payco's industrial team developed a modification to the skid steer loader with a plate welded to the front bucket edge. As a result, the MC115C removes the reflectors efficiently at high speeds.

The machine has proven itself tough enough to cope with the shock of popping markers from the pavement. And satisfied with the skid steer loader’s performance, Payco recently added a second Volvo MC115C to the fleet to grind off thermoplastic striping from roadways during relining projects.

China’s demand for construction equipment has resulted in numerous firms developing machines just for this market for example. Customers in China have long favoured the European-style machines, featuring tamper bar screeds, over the machines with vibrating

  • Dual layer, hot to hot paving at German airport
    August 18, 2015
An airport in Germany has seen the use of very innovative asphalt paving techniques, with the use of dual-layer, hot-to-hot working. The method was used to meet a very tight schedule for the runway rebuilding work, while also delivering the high quality required. Two InLine Pave trains from Vögele were used at Rostock-Laage Airport to lay a new surface and binder course. The operation was innovative as the process used both hot-to-hot, echelon paving as well as dual layer, hot-on-hot working. Using this
