Bobcat’s TL38.70HF Agri telehandler: big reach, small footprint

The UK’s first new 1130 Bobcat TL38.70HF Agri telehandler has a double life in the Black Mountains area that straddles the border between England and Wales.

The TL38.70HF is putting in time in a quarry processing plant at the foot of picturesque mountains in the English county of Hereford.

Black Mountain Quarries, based at Howton Court in Pontrilas in Herefordshire, owns the machine that was supplied by authorised Bobcat and 695 Doosan dealer Kellands Plant Sales.

Black Mountain Quarries also owns a quarry in the south-west England county of Cornwall.

“Though we bought it through our Cornwall quarry, the new Bobcat TL38.70HF AGRI telehandler is now working in Hereford and Monmouthshire,” said quarry owner Adrian Phillips. “It took over from a Bobcat TL360 telehandler which is now working down in the Cornwall quarry.”

“I bought the new TL38.70HF telehandler to provide more lifting capacity and a greater lifting height. At the processing plant, it carries out a range of material handling duties from loading stone into conveyors and lifting pallets to unloading the trucks that come in with stone from the three quarries.

The D34 Stage IV engine offers electronic fuel injection, along with high-pressure common rail technology, turbocharged air management and cooled exhaust gas recirculation for lower emissions. There is no need for diesel particulate filter (DPF) technology. It has been developed specifically for Bobcat’s new Stage IV telescopic loaders for highly regulated markets in Europe.

The 97kW engine uses DOC and SCR with DEF injection aftertreatment technologies. The compactness of the D34 engine and a new styled low profile engine hood have also enhanced visibility on the engine side of the TL38.70HF AGRI. Replacing the previous TL470HF model, the new model has an improved load providing a 300kg increase from 3.5tonnes to 3.8tonnes in maximum rated lifting capacity. The maximum lift height is 6975mm and the maximum horizontal reach is 3915mm.

Manitou has extended its Easy machine options to cover machines up to and including the 18m class MT1840. The company said that the move follows the introduction of an Easy version of its very popular MT625H compact telescopic handler. Manitou’s new MT732 to MT1840 Easy telehandlers meet the Stage IIIB emissions requirements by using a 55.4kW Deutz TD36L engine with a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC). Importantly, this engine does not require a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) or the use of a Diesel Exhaust
