Bobcat’s TL38.70HF Agri telehandler: big reach, small footprint

The UK’s first new 1130 Bobcat TL38.70HF Agri telehandler has a double life in the Black Mountains area that straddles the border between England and Wales.

The TL38.70HF is putting in time in a quarry processing plant at the foot of picturesque mountains in the English county of Hereford.

Black Mountain Quarries, based at Howton Court in Pontrilas in Herefordshire, owns the machine that was supplied by authorised Bobcat and 695 Doosan dealer Kellands Plant Sales.

Black Mountain Quarries also owns a quarry in the south-west England county of Cornwall.

“Though we bought it through our Cornwall quarry, the new Bobcat TL38.70HF AGRI telehandler is now working in Hereford and Monmouthshire,” said quarry owner Adrian Phillips. “It took over from a Bobcat TL360 telehandler which is now working down in the Cornwall quarry.”

“I bought the new TL38.70HF telehandler to provide more lifting capacity and a greater lifting height. At the processing plant, it carries out a range of material handling duties from loading stone into conveyors and lifting pallets to unloading the trucks that come in with stone from the three quarries.

The D34 Stage IV engine offers electronic fuel injection, along with high-pressure common rail technology, turbocharged air management and cooled exhaust gas recirculation for lower emissions. There is no need for diesel particulate filter (DPF) technology. It has been developed specifically for Bobcat’s new Stage IV telescopic loaders for highly regulated markets in Europe.

The 97kW engine uses DOC and SCR with DEF injection aftertreatment technologies. The compactness of the D34 engine and a new styled low profile engine hood have also enhanced visibility on the engine side of the TL38.70HF AGRI. Replacing the previous TL470HF model, the new model has an improved load providing a 300kg increase from 3.5tonnes to 3.8tonnes in maximum rated lifting capacity. The maximum lift height is 6975mm and the maximum horizontal reach is 3915mm.

Bucket, arm and swing forces in the DX300LC-5 remain the same as the Stage IIIB model, but the drawbar pull has been sharply increased by 8%. The operating weight of the DX300LC-5 has increased 900kg, resulting in a lifting capacity increase of 1% over the front and 5% over the side. The new machine’s styling allows increased driver comfort and vehicu

Volvo Penta has a full line-up of diesel engines for the 5, 8, 11, 13 and 16litre capacity range. These are available in low emissions, Stage V compliant variants. For the 5, 8 and 11 litre engines, particulate filters and SCR systems are used in the emissions control package to meet the stage V requirements. Meanwhile the 13 and 16litre engines feature an SCR system that is integrated with the particulate filter. Passive regeneration is used for the particulate filters, so there is no need to stop a machin

Engine technology is advancing, with lower emissions, lower fuel consumption and longer service intervals being key developments - Mike Woof reviews some of the latest developments A huge investment in diesel engine technologies in recent years has seen manufacturers develop low emission diesels that are quieter, cleaner and use less fuel, while in many instances delivering more power. For machine manufacturers this has been a major benefit, allowing them to meet tougher regulations on noise and exhaust

Great Tew Ironstone Quarry in North Oxfordshire in the UK has purchased a new top-of-the-range Doosan DL580-5 wheeled loader to increase production. The DL580-5 carries huge 14-16tonne blocks of Ironstone from the quarry face to a new €1.2 million stone processing plant that recently began production at the top of the quarry. Great Tew Ironstone has a striking brown and blue vein and is only available from this Oxfordshire quarry. A quarried block is often up to 30tonnes. “The new DL580-5 helps
