2180 ALLU says that its new Processor series of units can be used to help mix and process materials. These units are power mixer attachments that convert excavators into powerful and versatile machines for mixing a variety of difficult materials. Materials suited for the attachment range from clay, silt, peat, sludge and sediment, to dredged material and contaminated soil.

Working to a depth of 3m, the 2.1tonne, the Processor 300 HD is made from wear- resistant steel and with a stem designed to be strong, streamlined and lightweight. As with its smaller sibling the 300 HD, the 2.44tonne Processor 500 HD is both durable and strong and can work to a depth of 5m. Both units are powered by the excavator’s hydraulic system and are able to mix materials on any site. This means that binders or chemical agents can be delivered to the area of the highest mixing shear by an attached 80mm diameter pipe, and injected via a nozzle located between the mixing drums.

The market for milling equipment is a competitive one, with a range of companies from around the globe now offering machines for this segment: BOMAG, Caterpillar, Dynapac, Roadtec, Volvo CE and Wirtgen. In recent years a number of Chinese firms have entered this segment and determining the number of machines these companies manufacture is difficult, although most of their units are sold in China. The use of specialist equipment to produce hydraulically bound mixtures can save 30-40% on the cost of landfill and backfill it is claimed. The transportation and removal of old material from certain highway projects has long been a problem for contractors. But David MacLynn believes that the answer, in many instances, could lie in the use of hydraulically bound mixtures (HBM), which he says can save between 30-40% on the cost of landfill and backfill.
