The line-up now includes a full range of compressed air applications for construction, rental, utilities and quarrying sectors, with free air deliveries from 5-42.5m3/min at output pressures from 7-35bar. As well as a wide selection of Tier 3 High Ambient models, the range also includes several Tier 1 or Tier 2 engine-powered models well suited to the local fuel quality levels.

Among the smallest Tier 2 models is the popular C185WKUB-EX-T2 compressor with a compact design, easy towability and transportation and high manoeuvrability for use in confined areas. The C185WKUBEX- T2 compressor is specially designed for use in hot climates such as those in the Middle East and Africa (MEA). It features a simple instrumentation panel with mechanical gauges and a reliable airend. The C185WKUBEX- T2 compressor has a free air delivery of 5.2m³/min and operates at a working pressure of 7bar and is aimed at standard pressure applications in construction such as powering breakers and tools in road repair, demolition and refurbishment.

Moving up the range, the Tier 3 P260/HP220WYM-T3 compressor offers many of the features found in the smaller machine but also has a dual pressure option for a wider range of applications. This dual pressure portable air compressor delivers air flows ranging from 6.2- 7.4m³/min and pressures ranging from 7-10bar.

Providing a free air delivery of 10.6m³/min at 8.6 bar, the larger XP375WCU-T2 compressor features a Tier 2 196 Cummins mechanically controlled engine suited to MEA fuel quality levels and offering easy operation and maintenance.

Specially designed for the MEA climate but also featuring a reliable, heavy duty air intake filtration system allowing it to cope easily with the very dusty environment.

The XP375WCU-T2 compressor is ideal for sandblasting operations. For larger air flows of 23.3m³/ min at an output pressure of 8.6bar, the mid-range 9/235WCU-T2 compressor also features a Tier 2 Cummins mechanically controlled engine as well as a high ambient temperature (52oC) package/cool box airflow system ideal for use in MEA.

The 9/235WCU-T2 High Ambient compressor is designed for work in the harshest conditions, with environmental contamination minimised by a drip-proof base which helps to prevent the spillage of fluids. Other features include integrated automatic safety shutdown features.

For quarrying as well as foundation drilling in general construction, 695 Doosan’s XHP900WCAT-T1 and XHP1070WCAT-T1 models incorporate the proven Cat 3406 Tier l mechanically controlled engine, which is ideal for use in MEA. The XHP900WCAT-T1 and XHP1070WCAT-T1 compressors have free air deliveries of 25.4m³/ min and 30.3m³/min respectively, at an output pressure of 24.1bar.

Taking the range up to a free air delivery of 36m³/min and an output pressure of 35bar is the XXHP1270 model, an innovative, open frame compressor providing a small footprint with the highest power density in the industry in terms of the flow and pressure combination. The innovative XXHP1270 model offers as standard, dual flow and dual pressure.

Doosan Portable Power was showing no less than four new air compressors on its stand at Conexpo. Two of the four are not powered by diesel; the manufacturer wants to offer its customers more cost effective machines as Tier 4 engines push the price of compressors up. “The price point of the T4 interim and T4 final is getting to the point that contractors are willing to accept alternative power solutions,” said Rus Warner, Doosan’s manager of global air products.

The latest developments in drilling rigs can help boost efficiency in quarry producion applications - Mike Woof reports. Efficient drilling and blasting operations can have a huge impact on production costs in quarrying. Accuracy of hole direction and depth, as well as optimum blast design and explosives use, are critical for efficient blasting work. Ineffective blasting can result in high quantities of fines of low commercial value as well as over-sized material requiring secondary breaking. This impacts o

Compressors from Atlas Copco are proving highly useful in highly diverse applications, on a bridge project and a quarry in Canada. Water ingress over 30 years has damaged a road bridge in Quebec City, Canada, deteriorating the concrete and breaking down the rubber expansion joints at both ends of the 150m long structure. City highway authority, Transportes Quebec, awarded local contracting company Inter-Structures the contract to replace the deteriorated concrete and fit new membrane seals. The bridge, clos
