Caterpillar Work Tools has introduced its new generation of Multi-Processors for CAT hydraulic excavators.

178 Caterpillar's Multi-Processor MP300 Series (MP318 and MP324) is said to be able to handle virtually any demolition job by using the basic housing together with a choice of up to six available jaw sets. Other models will be added to the standard offering at a later stage.

"We are applying technologies which reduce our customers' owning and operating costs to ensure they make more money when they choose CAT products and the CAT dealer network than they can with any competitive alternative. This new generation of Multi-Processors uses patent pending booster and speed valve technology and a patent pending jaw locking system, which translates to lower costs for customers and lower emissions for the environment," said Richard J. Hermann, commercial manager at Caterpillar Work Tools.

The new MP300 Series builds on the success of its predecessor and is compact and light in construction, yet incredibly strong in cutting and crushing capability. The housing's strong rotator provides a continuous 360° rotation that allows to carry out the demolition job quickly and precisely from any angle.

Each Multi-Processor can be equipped with a wide selection of interchangeable jaws: Concrete Cutter (CC), Demolition (D), Pulveriser (P), Shear (S), Universal (U), and Tank Shear (TS). With a single common housing and a properly selected jaws set, a contractor is said by CAT to be able to achieve exceptional flexibility with minimum investment, and accomplish most tasks encountered on a demolition job. The various jaws can be quickly installed or changed, thanks to a new patent pending jaw locking system. Instead of taking about 25 minutes to change the jaws with the previous Series, CAT says it now takes 10 minutes with only basic tools needed.

Cutting and crushing with the MP300 Series is said to be faster than before. Whenever the jaws meet resistance, an integral hydraulic SpeedBooster automatically kicks in. The new booster design combines a speed valve and new smaller cylinder which nearly halves the jaw open/close cycle times. Additionally, the closing force has increased up to 6%. CAT says this will generate between 10 % (Steel cutting CC-jaw) and up to 50% (Concrete breaking D-Jaw) more production.

The new jaws have fewer welds, and replaceable wear parts (CAT GET) therefore fewer stress areas in construction. Protection for hydraulic components and hoses has been increased, and an improved guard gives greater motor protection.

The MP300 Series Multi-Processors are fully supported by CAT dealers; customers can order parts and service for machines and work tools from a single source.
