An Italian job for Hitachi ZX350LCN-6 medium excavators

If you’re working in a tough quarry, you need machinery that doesn’t break down. That’s the opinion of Basalto La Spicca’s Quarry Manager Luca Dominici.

A basalt quarry in southern Umbria, owned by Basalto La Spicca, demands the most durable equipment - in this case, two 233 Hitachi ZX350LCN-6 medium excavators. These will eventually replace its older Zaxis-3 models, said quarry manager Luca Dominici. To enhance stability on the quarry floor, the new machines are equipped with double grouser shoes. They’re also fitted with 1.8m3 rock buckets, while one of the ZX350LCN-6s is using a hammer attachment.

According to Luca, the new Zaxis-6 excavators are making a positive impact:

“Our machines don’t break down. We had no problems with the ZX350LC-3 after 12,000 working hours and so the new models promise to be even better,” said Dominici.

The Zaxis-6 models use around 30% less fuel per hour than the Zaxis-3.

The engine power rating of the ZX350LCN-6 is 210kW. Its operating weight is between 34,200-36,300kg and it has a digging depth between 6,500-7,380mm.

The medium excavators join Basalto La Spicca’s fleet of Hitachi machinery, which includes two large excavators - a ZX520LCH-3 and ZX470LCH-3 - and two ZW250-5 wheeled loaders.

Look around our stand at INTERMAT and you’ll see what we can do for the quarrying machine sector – that was the challenge from new CNH Construction Equipment president Mario Gasparri. The former CNH International general manager said the Group’s new C-Series of wheel loaders and crawler excavators on show countered any claims of a lack of dedication to the sector. Case Construction Equipment, also part of the CNH Group, weighed in by unveiling its new heavy duty C-Series CX470C excavator during the show.
