In Italy, Casaioli SNC, which specialises in earthmoving, road construction and groundworks, has found that its 233 Hitachi ZAXIS 60USB-3 compact excavator is small enough to work in the narrow streets of Assisi and also powerful enough to do the job.

The company is replacing gas and water pipes in the historic city and helping to reconstruct the road network, which was damaged in the 1997 earthquake.

Owner Giorgio Casaioli says: "The machine is also quiet, which is very important when working in a city such as Assisi. It is also comfortable and powerful for its size."
Away from the city, the ZX60USB-3 has proved popular in central Italy's agricultural industry where Giovanni Petrini uses the mini excavator with three different sized buckets, a large drilling attachment and, most often, with a Berti mowing attachment which is used to clear branches and long grass in olive groves in Foligno.

Powered by a 7139 Yanmar engine producing 40.5 kW at 2,000rpm, the machine's operating Weight is 6,193kg, and the backhoe bucket has a capacity of 0.19m³)

Italian Hitachi dealer SCAI Noleggio says that offering customers a broad and varied range of models is vital, and the expanding Hitachi product range will help it to cater for Italy's rental sector, which is continuing to grow despite the global economic downturn.
