Highly mobile, the XAS87Kd compressor weighs in at less than 750kg, is compact in design, robust, sturdy and simple to operate. Power comes from a four-cylinder 1265 Kubota diesel rated at 33kW and the compressor features a novel smaller element with improved rotor design, coupled through direct gear transmission. It provides a free air delivery of 5m³/min at 7 bars allowing a three tool capacity and is available with a steel canopy or a more durable HardHat canopy. The XAS 87 Kd is also equipped as standard with a 40litre compact fuel tank to allow working throughout an 8hour shift. In addition, the unit is offered with a cold start aid as an option, enabling it to be started at temperatures as low as -20°C.

Atlas Copco is introducing mobile electric Variable Speed Drive (VSD) air compressors to its E-Air range. These electric compressors are said to suit working in a low emission zone. The absence of diesel emissions, combined with the low noise levels (as low as 61dB(A)), suits the E-Air range for underground applications like tunnelling, as air ventilation is a part of their running costs. While the fixed-speed electric compressor needs a start-up current peak, the VSD electric range offers versatility. Ef

Aimed at reducing the emissions of nitrous oxide as well as particulate matter, in a phased series of stages the engine emission improvements will make major changes to the construction sector.
