BOMAG’s battery powered tamper

BOMAG has developed its first ever electric tamper model, the BT 60 e.

Versatility is claimed for BOMAG’s new battery powered tamper unit

The new BT 60 e tamper can be used for trench jobs, compaction work on backfills and foundations, as well as for repairs. The battery-electric drive means that the tamper operates without direct emissions, while featuring new compaction technology and high impact forces over prolonged working periods.

The firm says that the unit carries out the same work as a petrol unit but with a different drive. Because of its zero emissions, the tamper can be used anywhere including applications such as areas close to housing and in underground parking areas.

Like the other tamper models in the range, the BT 60 e has full engine protection. The machine also benefits from proven battery technology, with a choice of either the 1,000Wh eP 20 or 1,400Wh eP 28 batteries. Standard and fast charging units are available, while swapping power packs is quick and easy using the release lever. Maintenance is also said to be easy due to the electric drive, with no need to replace engine oil or air filters.

The company has been known in the past for its large slipform pavers used in road and airport runway jobs but in recent years has developed smaller and more compact units. The S400 shares many of its features with the existing S600, which was previously the most compact model in the line-up. The firm’s German representative, Peter Hedke said, “It’s the smallest machine we’ve ever built.”
