New Zealand road repair programme planned

New Zealand is planning a programme of road repairs from now until March 2020. Over 1,200km of roads will be repaired under the plans.

New Zealand is planning a programme of road repairs from now until March 2020. Over 1,200km of roads will be repaired under the plans. US$99.8 million (NZ$155 million) has been budged for the work by the Ministry of Transport. Of this, the Waikato Region will benefit from the biggest investment in road repairs, with 431km of roads to be repaired at 559 locations. Work being carried out will include chip seal resurfacing and asphalt resurfacing.

The New Zealand Government has identified 870km of roads that suffer high crash rates and which are in need of safety upgrades. A budget of US$901.5 million (NZ$1.4 billion) has been set for the work, which should be complete by 2021. Rumble strips, guard rail and shoulder widening are planned to be carried out.
