World Bank helping fund Kenya road

Funding from the World Bank (WB) will help finance a key Kenyan road project. The US$440.61 million credit line is being provided by the WB to the Kenya National Highways Authority. This will be used for upgrading the Lodwar-Nadapal Road in Kenya. The upgrading will involve construction of bridges, culverts and other drainage facilities.

    Funding is being provided for our projects that form part of Colombia’s 4G road development programme. The Inter-American Development Bank Group’s private sector subsidiary, IDB Invest, is supplying close to US$207 million for the four road projects to the development firms handling the works. IDB Invest is in turn borrowing the sum from Colombia’s national development bank Financiera de Desarrollo Nacional (FDN). In all Colombia’s 4G programme calls for $18 billion of construction works to be carried out.

Financing is required for the reconstruction of the M10 highway in Belarus, which runs from Kobrin through Gomel to the Russian border.     Turkey’s programme of bridge and highway building looks set to continue with a funding package for the 1915 Canakkale Bridge and Highway project being found. The bridge will span the Dardanelles Straits and the funding package is worth US$2.83 billion. The financing will come in the shape of a loan has been secured by a group of 24 banks and institutions from 10 countries in all. The loan calls for a 15 year repayment period. The bridge will be a constructed by a consortium, Canakkale Otoyol.
