Uganda-Kenya road link finds funds

Funding for improvements to a major road connection between Kenya and Uganda will be provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB). In all US$253 of financing will be provided for the road improvement work to the 118km stretch of road. The Kenyan side of the project will receive funding worth $147 million while the Ugandan side will receive $106 million. Funding for improvements to a major road connection between Kenya and Uganda will be provided by the 1586 African Development Bank (AfDB). In all US$253 of financing will be provided for the road improvement work to the 118km stretch of road. The Kenyan side of the project will receive funding worth $147 million while the Ugandan side will receive $106 million. This will pay for close to 90% of the costs associated with the project, with the remainder being paid for by the Kenyan Government and the 1073 Ugandan Government for the respective sections in their territory. Included in the work will be a bypass around the Kenyan town of Eldoret.

    Financing is being secured for an important road connection in Rwanda. A grant of US$42 million is being provided by China, following and agreement with the Rwanda Government. The funding will help to pay for a 10km stretch of road that links Kigali with Masaka, lying to the east of the city. The work will also improve connections to Eastern Rwanda, while helping to boost the country’s economic development.
