Slovakia bypass cost reduction

Revisions to a bypass project in Slovakia will help reduce the construction costs. The Prešov bypass is now being built with just two lanes, which will cut the construction costs by some€200 million. The project was initially expected to cost as much as €900 million and was criticised for its expense. Further plans for a tunnel at the northern end of the bypass are being discussed at present.     An administrative delay has been holding up the commencement of the new bypass project around Slovakia’s capital, Bratislava. The project is being handled by a joint venture team headed by Spanish contractor Cintra Infraestructuras. The project’s agreement should have been signed on 4th March 2016 by the Slovakian Government. A reason for the delay has not been revealed. The ring-road project is worth some €1.9 billion and will be constructed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

    The Ministries of Transport for Poland and Slovakia have held discussions regarding the connection of the S1 and A1 highway links. The S1 road will run from the border with Slovakia to meet with the A1 highway at Pyrzowice in Poland. This road link should be ready for traffic in 2022. Also ready for traffic in 2022 should be Slovakia’s D3 highway.
