Serbia speeding spending on roads

Serbia is planning to speed construction of its highway network. A key project being prioritised is the Corridor 10 motorway, which is due for completion by September 2016. Another priority project is for Corridor 11 and for several regional road routes. Serbia is planning to speed construction of its highway network. A key project being prioritised is the Corridor 10 motorway, which is due for completion by September 2016. Another priority project is for Corridor 11 and for several regional road routes. At present the Corridor 10 sections between Sid and Belgrade, and Subotica and Belgrade have been built, while work on the 22km Ipsilon stretch between Subotica and Kelebija is underway. Work is also underway on the 96km south node from Grabovnica to Presevo to connect with the Macedonian border. When open to traffic, Corridor 10 will link Serbia with Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, Greece, Bulgaria and Macedonia. Other work to be carried out includes the 47km Belgrade ringroad, the remaining part of the Strazevica-Bubanj Potok and Corridor 11. Works on Corridor 11 will include Belgrade-South Adriatic, Belgrade-Montenegro border of 270km, due for completion by 2018. Companies from Azerbaijan are working on Ljig-Preljina of 40km, while Chinese companies are working on Obrenovac-Ub and Lajkovac-Ljig sections. Two local contractors, Planum and Putevi Uzice, are working on the 12.5km Ub-Lajkovac section of the motorway. So far, a number of international companies have expressed interest for concession works of the Corridor 11, between Pozega and Boljari with the Montenegrin border, while works towards Romania will be the Zemun-Borca bridge towards Zrenjanin.

  • China to begin works on Serbia’s Corridor 11 motorway later this month

    Chinese company Shandong High Speed Group is planning to begin construction works on Serbia’s Corridor 11 motorway in the second half of September 2013. Shandong will participate with 51% of works on the Lajkovac-Ljig and Obrenovac-Ub parts of the motorway, with domestic companies participating in the remainder of the works, due for completion within 38 months. Meanwhile, the Azerbaijan-based firm Azvirt is working on the 40km part of the Ljig-Preljina motorway, worth a total of €308 million.

    Works on Serbia’s Strazevica tunnel is due for completion in May 2012. The tunnel forms part of the Belgrade ringroad. Serbia’s Government is also planning to finish the construction of a total of 200km of the Corridor 10 motorway, following the completion of the Strazevica-Bubanj and Batajnica-Dobanovci sections. Work on the remaining 130km will commence soon. Meanwhile work on the Ljig-Preljina section of Corridor 11 is now underway.
