Plans are moving forward in Turkey for the construction of a new tunnel project. This new link will run under the busy Bosporus waterway and will connect Kucuksu on the Anatolian side and Gayrettepe on the European side. Plans are moving forward in Turkey for the construction of a new tunnel project. This new link will run under the busy Bosporus waterway and will connect Kucuksu on the Anatolian side and Gayrettepe on the European side. Approval for the work has been given by the Istanbul Municipality Council. And the timeline for the project calls for the route to be ready for use in five years time In all the route will pass through 12 districts, so some further approvals will be necessary however. The route will feature three decks, with two carrying cars and a third for a rail link. The rail portion of the tunnel will be 31.5km long, while the triple deck stretch will measure 16.5km long and the project is expected to cost some US$3.5 billion to build.

    Major highway projects are seeing progress in India. The US$1.52 billion Zojila Pass tunnel project is being planned in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The project has been awarded to local road development firm IRB Infrastructure Developers (IRB). The 14.08km tunnel is expected to take seven years to complete.
