Pakistan highway project underway

Construction work on a major highway project in Pakistan linking Peshawar with Karachi is now underway. Building the section from Sukkur to Multan is expected to take 36 months. Once complete, the six-lane highway will stretch 392km in length. In all the Peshawar-Karachi highway will be some 1,152km long and will also pass through Lahore. Construction work on a major highway project in Pakistan linking Peshawar with Karachi is now underway. Building the section from Sukkur to Multan is expected to take 36 months. Once complete, the six-lane highway will stretch 392km in length. In all the Peshawar-Karachi highway will be some 1,152km long and will also pass through Lahore. Funding worth US$2.89 billion is being provided by the Export-Import Bank of China with the construction work being carried out by China State Construction Engineering Corp (CSEC). The Peshawar-Karachi highway is Pakistan’s largest infrastructure project and will form part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, itself a key component in China’s One Belt, One Road strategy.
