A major programme of investment looks set to add new road and highway links to Mexico’s network. Mexico City’s often crowded road infrastructure links will see some improvements when a key new link opens for traffic
A major programme of investment looks set to add new road and highway links to Mexico’s network. The Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT) has announced planned investments of some US$5.39 billion in several projects in the states of Chiapas, Guerrero, Michoacan and Oaxaca. The 70 projects include 32 road and 14 motorway projects, as well as the expansion of six ports. In addition, the new Las Armas distribution road that will connect the State of Mexico and Mexico city has been inaugurated. The first section of the Bicentenario Viaduct (Veb) alongside Primero de Mayo Avenue is due for completion in December 2013-January 2014. The second section of the Veb in the North Periphery will be completed within eight months. Spanish construction company 980 OHL is carrying out the work.

    Mexico’s sub-secretary of infrastructure, Raul Murrieta Cummings, has announced that the Mexican Secretariat of Communications and Transport will US$3.3 billion in road infrastructure projects during 2016.     Spanish construction firm OHL has secured its first highway works contract in the US state of Texas. The US$142 million contract will see the company renew a 3.2km section of the US-290, which runs through the Lone Star state. Building new bridges, highway resurfacing and drainage improvements are key features of the contract. The work is part of the widening programme for the US-290. The state of Texas has plans to carry out infrastructure projects worth US$5 billion by the end of 2014.
