A series of major road and bridge projects is now underway in India. One of the most notable is the US$500 million project to build a new bridge spanning the River Ganges, which will be the longest in the country. Financing for the 9.8km bridge has been provided in the shape of a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The new link will be located close to Patna and is spanning both channels of the Ganges at this point and it features a cable-stayed design. The new bridge is required as the original structure is now in poor condition and is no longer able to cope with traffic demands.

Plans in Telangana State call for the construction of 460km of new roads. The programme of work is costing $1.2 billion. The new road links include connections from Sangareddy to Nanded and Jagityal-Karimnagar to Kodad-Khammam. Meanwhile work is underway on a new National Highway link connecting Pratapagarh with Allahabad. The highway project is costing $89.6 million and the link will feature two lanes of traffic in either direction. The new link also includes the construction of a new bridge, costing nearly $45 million.
