Investment from Taiwan will boost Guatemala’s transport infrastructure

Financing from Taiwan will help develop road infrastructure in Guatemala. Both the Taiwanese Government and private Taiwanese sources are supplying funding streams to Guatemala for transport infrastructure development. The Taiwanese Government is donating US$50 million to help improve the section of the Atlantico road connecting Sanarate and El Rancho. Financing from Taiwan will help develop road infrastructure in Guatemala. Both the Taiwanese Government and private Taiwanese sources are supplying funding streams to Guatemala for transport infrastructure development. The Taiwanese Government is donating US$50 million to help improve the section of the Atlantico road connecting Sanarate and El Rancho. Taiwan is also providing a further $50 million in the shape of a loan for the project. This loan will be repayable over a 20 year period. The Atlantico road upgrade project will cost some $119 million in all, with work on the third phase due to commence at the end of 2013. In addition, Taiwanese private funding looks set to provide backing for a series of infrastructure projects in Guatemala, with the development on an inter-oceanic corridor planned. One of the key projects is for a highway linking the Atlantic And Pacific Oceans, as well as the building of a railway and a pipeline along the same route. This project is expected to cost in the region of $7-9 billion in all.
