The funds will pay for completion of the delayed alternative route around the Super City, between Albany and Manukau. The upgrade will provide a bus shoulder and three traffic lanes in each direction to Westgate.

Separate funding worth $315 million was also made by the government to create a motorway-to-motorway connection between State Highway 1 and the 47km long ring route that is due for completion by 2021.
