Design for St Petersburg’s new highway ready

Preliminary design work for the Eastern High-Speed Radius construction project in St Petersburg has been completed. The project calls for the construction of a highway and a bridge between Fayansovaya Street and Zolnaya Street. The project will require an investment of some US$2.67 billion and is expected to be funded through private financial sources.     Major cost reductions are being seen on some key highway projects in Russia including the new ring road project in St Petersburg, where the reduction is US$192.31 million.     A LEGAL dispute is now underway in Russia over the St Petersburg ring road project. Construction company Flora was awarded a €187.6 million contract for an 11km section of the ring road in 2008, winning the tender by making the lowest bid. However, the Russian authorities have taken the contract for this section of the ring road away from Flora claiming it did not meet set targets. Flora is disputing the loss of the contract with the authorities.
