Colombia infrastructure expansion plan underway

Colombia is moving ahead steadily with its 4G road development scheme. According to the Colombian Chamber of Infrastructure (CCI), the Colombian Government has awarded 31 of the 4G projects to date. And of these 31 projects, 21 are being built at present with another eight in the process of securing financing. In all these 21 active projects and the eight close to commencement are worth a total of US$4.37 billion. Colombia is moving ahead steadily with its 4G road development scheme. According to the Colombian Chamber of Infrastructure (CCI), the Colombian Government has awarded 31 of the 4G projects to date. And of these 31 projects, 21 are being built at present with another eight in the process of securing financing. In all these 21 active projects and the eight close to commencement are worth a total of US$4.37 billion. The Colombian Government hopes that financing will be secured for a further two projects by the end of 2017. However problems with regard to the financial irregularities surrounding the Ruta del Sol II project have yet to be dealt with fully. In addition to the major road projects envisaged by the 4G programme, the CCI is also calling for improvements to Colombia’s tertiary roads however.

  • Colombia road plan includes new project

    Colombia's future 4G road programme now includes a new project, to provide a new link from Popayan to Santander de Quilichao. The three month consultation process has been completed and the steps needed for an environmental license to be awarded are now underway. Should all continue to go to plan, construction of the 77km link should commence in August 2018, although a target for the completion date has yet to be announced.
