Chinese funding to construct Black Sea connection

Two Chinese construction firms are keen to build Bulgaria’s Cherno More highway. The highway runs close to the country’s Black Sea Coast and will connect the cities of Varna and Burgas when it is complete. Two Chinese construction firms are keen to build Bulgaria’s Cherno More highway. The highway runs close to the country’s Black Sea Coast and will connect the cities of Varna and Burgas when it is complete. The project is just one of several in Central and Eastern Europe that will receive a portion of the €10 billion cooperation credit line proposed by China for the region. The 103km Cherno More highway will be one section of the Pan-European Corridor VIII and will connect with the Hemus highway at Varna and the Trakia highway at Burgas, both of which run towards capital Sofia.

    Bulgaria has earmarked €690 million to build a 134km section of the Hemus motorway between Boaza and the I-5 Ruse-Veliko Tarnovo road in the north. Around 170km have been built of the 420km Hemus Motorway, designated the A2. The motorway is divided into two sections with the first one running from the capital Sofia to Yablanitsa, crossing Stara planina - Balkan mountains.     Work on the new Trakiya Highway in Bulgaria is on track, with some 70km already open to traffic. When it is complete, the new highway will link Karnobat and Burgas on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast.
