Chilean infrastructure projects being planned

In Chile plans are well in hand for a series of major infrastructure projects, with the work likely to help boost the country’s economy. In Chile plans are well in hand for a series of major infrastructure projects, with the work likely to help boost the country’s economy. The 2610 Ministry of Public Works in Chile (MOP) has announced that it will speed up the process for key infrastructure construction projects. Those projects involving investments of around US$1.10 billion should be approved by 11th March 2015. The Ministry of Public Works has indicated that three private concession contracts have already been approved, including the dual-carriageway road in Route 5 between Chacao and Chonchi and a road between Caldera and Antofagasta. The 968 Chilean government is promoting public-private partnerships (PPPs) involving investments in excess of $11 billion.

The tender for Agua Negra tunnel project is due before the end of 2014. The project will cost $1.6 billion and will connect Ovalle in Chile with San Juan in Argentina. Chile has two other projects for binational tunnels including the Baja Altura, which will cost $3.6 billion. For this, 40% will run through Chile. The other project is for the Las Lenas link, which will cost $1.7 billion and for this route, some 23% will be through Chile.
