Road projects in Brazil could see extended deadlines. This move follows on from the impeachment of the former president. Several roads were privatised under the previous administration, with widening and general upgrade works having been required as integral components of the concession packages. The agreements settled with the former administration called for the road widening and improvement works to be carried out in a five year period. But these five year deadlines may be amended once comprehensive reviews of each project have been completed. Toll charges may be reduced for some stretches of road. Meanwhile the operating companies will be required to show that any delays in road widening were not their fault. Brazil’s regulatory body will decide as to which concession packages will be allowed extensions for the work. This process is amongst the complexities now having to be unravelled by the present administration in Brazil.
