Bosnia-Serbia highway project faces delays

Delays look set to hold back construction work on the planned highway that will connect Bosnia with Serbia. The route will join Bosnia’s capital Sarajevo with Bosnia’s capital Belgrade when it is complete.

Delays look set to hold back construction work on the planned highway that will connect Bosnia with Serbia. The route will join Bosnia’s capital Sarajevo with Bosnia’s capital Belgrade when it is complete. Further discussions will be carried out between the authorities in Bosnia and Serbia in due course to try to cement the plans for the highway. Funding for the project could be supplied, in part at least, from Turkey.

To achieve this programme a new consortium will be set-up to secure part of the necessary capital, while part will be financed by strategic partners.     Construction of the 25km Lasva-Travnik express road in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been delayed, according to the government. Adnan Terzic, director of the motorways company Autoceste FBiH, said the issue is funding and the company is awaiting release of around €92 million by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
