Bangladesh highway widening project to commence shortly

Widening work for a key highway link in Bangladesh will commence shortly. The work will be carried out on the 41km link from the Akhaura logistics centre to the river port of Ashungaj.

Widening work for a key highway link in Bangladesh will commence shortly. The work will be carried out on the 41km link from the Akhaura logistics centre to the river port of Ashungaj. The project is costing in excess of US$441 million. Completion of the work is expected in 2020. Much of the funding necessary for the construction work will come from India.

    In Uganda planning is underway for the upgrade of the Kampala-Jinja route. Preparations are being made for a new tolled highway connecting with capital Kampala. The upgrade will see the route being widened with four lanes for much of the length, six lanes on the approach to Kampala and up to eight lanes where vehicle densities will be heaviest to carry the capital’s traffic. The construction work is expected to cost some US$74 million and the new link will connect with the existing Kampala-Entebbe highway.

    Work is now commencing on the US Route 301 project, which will cost US$635 million and is intended to reduce congestion and benefit commerce in the Northeastern United States. “When completed, the project will link to I-95 and support the economy of not only Delaware but also one of the nation’s largest regions,” said US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. “It will increase access to economic opportunity by making it easier for people to commute to jobs in the fastest growing region of the state.”
