Azerbaijan highway project receiving funding

A major highway upgrade project in Azerbaijan is receiving fuding from the World Bank. Under the terms of the deal the World Bank has approved financing worth US$140 million for the widening of the Baku-Shamakhi highway. The highway will be widened to four lanes, increasing capacity.

    Funding from the World Bank will help with the development of Vietnam’s North-South Expressway project. The Vietnamese Government has sourced US$214 million for the project already from its own funds. The highway will stretch 654km across the country, speeding transport and helping develop trade and tourism. Because of the project’s scale, the work is being split into 11 separate stretches and should be complete by 2025.

    Azerbaijan will see a major investment in its road infrastructure. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is supplying funding worth US$350 million that will be targeted at road construction in Azerbaijan. The funding will be for the 2015-2017 period. Meanwhile a further $752 million from the ADB will be used to develop other aspects of infrastructure in Azerbaijan such as general transportation and utilities over the same period.
