Austria spending to develop transport links

Austria’s Infrastructure Ministry is setting out an ambitious programme of transport infrastructure development. Plans have been announced for €25 billion worth of infrastructure improvements over the next five years. This will include improvements to road and rail, as well as broadband services.

    A budget in excess of US$129.3 billion has been set for transport improvements across the country. Repairs will be carried out to 16,000km of roads, while 1,700km of new roads will be built.

    International transport corridors will benefit from the budget. One of the projects bring prioritised will be the road link through Russia connecting Europe with China.

    The transport ministers of Austria, Hungary and Slovenia have signed an agreement to cooperate on the development of autonomous vehicles and e-mobility. The agreement advocates creating an Austrian-Hungarian-Slovenian driverless region to help develop and understand the latest mobility technologies and vehicles, according to a report in the Austrian newspaper Oberösterreichische Nachrichten.
