Machine manufacturers’ meeting in China

The T50 Summit of the World Construction Machinery Industry was held in Beijing towards the end of 2017. The event was jointly organised by China Construction Machinery Industry Association, the American Equipment Manufacturers Association (AEM) and Korea Construction Machinery Manufacturers Association. Because of its high profile, T50 is one of the most influential summits in the industry.

    The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) U.S. say construction machinery exports dropped 21% during the first half of 2013, with US$10.8 billion shipped to global markets compared to $13.7 billion in H1 2012. The AEM report that nearly all world regions recorded double-digit declines, except Central America with a double-digit gain. Construction machinery exports to Europe in H1 2013, compared to H1 2012, declined 20% for a total $1.4 billion, with exports to Canada down 15% to a total value of $3.7

    Earthmoving sales in Germany this year could top 30,000, according to Joachim Schmid, managing director of VDMA - Construction Equipment and Building Materials Machinery Association. Orders are also up 14% on that of 2016, said Schmid who was speaking during this week’s Steinexpo2017 demonstration trade fair near the central German city of Homberg. The event is held in the Nieder-Ofleiden basalt quarry – the largest such quarry in Europe.

    Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Cummins are setting up a joint venture to produce engines in South Korea for the earthmoving equipment market. The two companies are investing US$33 million each into the project, which will be called Hyundai Cummins Engine Company and will have its factory located in Daegu. Production is scheduled to commence in 2014, with capacity reaching 50,000 engines/year once the facility is fully commissioned.
