Uganda bridge project -financing secured

Financing now looks set to be secured for a major bridge project for Uganda. A loan is being supplied by various European and Japanese banks will help pay for the new River Nile Bridge. In all the bridge project is costing US$125.7 million. The 525m-long by 23m-wide link is needed to replace the ageing xxx structure. After the new bridge opens to traffic, the old bridge will be decommissioned.

    An upgrade is planned for the road connecting Uganda with Kenya at the Suam-Bukwo-Kapchorwa border crossing.     A successful explosive demolition project for an old bridge has been carried out in the US state of Missouri. The Fairfax Bridge was constructed in 1935 and was no longer able to meet current transportation needs. Some 760m long the bridge was carrying around 6,000 vehicles/day. Another bridge was also opened nearby, the Platte Purchase Bridge, in 1957 to help the original structure carry the necessary traffic volumes. Removing the old structure of the Fairfax Bridge as well as the Platte Purchase Bridge and replacing them with a new bridge is costing around US$79 million.
