Trans-Sumatra highway deal for Indonesia

Funding sources are being looked at for the important Trans-Sumatra highway in Indonesia. The Indonesian Government has been holding discussions with the Asia Investment Infrastructure Bank (AIIB). A loan for the construction of the 130km stretch of tolled highway from Pekanbaru to Dumai is being considered. In all this stretch of highway is expected to cost some US$1.24 billion to construct with just under a third being funded by the loan.

    A loan facility has been secured which will help provide the necessary funding for a project planned by Waskita Toll Road in Indonesia. The loan is worth US$151.1 million and is being provided by a number of finance agencies. The bodies providing the financing package are Sarana Multi Infrastrukture and Bank Syariah Mandiri. The financing will be used by Waskita Toll Road’s Trans Jawa Paspro Jalan Tol division for a 31km toll road connecting Pasuruan with Probolinggo.

    A series of major highway projects are now moving ahead in Indonesia. One of the projects is for part of the Trans-Java Toll Road. Work is now starting to build the route and this new 759km toll road will connect Surabaya and Jakarta. Construction is already underway on building the Bogor-Ciawi-Sukabumi Toll Road or Bocimi linking West Java's Ciawi with Cigombong.

    Nicaragua’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (MTI) is setting out its road development programme for 2018. In all the plans call for the construction of 171km of roads. Work will be completed for the road from Mulukuku to Siuna, with the first 23km stretch due to open in September 2018 and the remaining 21.5km expected in December 2018.
