Thailand plans PPP projects

The Thailand Government aims to review plans for a series of PPP infrastructure projects in the first half of 2016. Should the projects get the go ahead, bidding processes would then commence in the second half of 2016. The planned PPP projects include the construction of two major highways. The highways are planned to connect Nonthaburi's Bang Yai district with Kanchanaburi as well as Ayutthaya's Bang Pa-in district with Nakhon Ratchasima.

The Thailand Government aims to review plans for a series of PPP infrastructure projects in the first half of 2016.     Major plans are in hand in Thailand for transport infrastructure development. The country’s Ministry of Transport is revising its construction plans for a series of key transport infrastructure projects at present. Several selected plans will then be presented to the cabinet in mid-December 2015. A total of five public-private partnership (PPP) ventures are among projects that will be re-submitted to the cabinet for approval. Two of these PPP projects are highways that will cost an estimated US$3.9 billion.

    In Thailand, official approval has been given for three new highways to connect major cities. The three new highways will cost an estimated US$4.92 billion in all to construct. The project to construct the Bang Yai-Ban Pong-Kanchanaburi highway will cost $1.71 billion and the work is due for completion in 36 months.   • Thai government prioritises five new roads worth US$9.27 billion by 2020

    The Thai government has prioritised the construction of five roads worth US$9.27 billion (THB 267bn) and totalling 705km in length by 2020. Chula Sukmanop, director general for Thailand’s Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning, said that three of the new roads will be financed by a loan secured by the government.
