The contract will involve building an 8.6km section of expressway along with a number of overbridges and will take 36 months to complete. The work is being carried out for the state-owned firm NIF Zrt. This will be the first section of the R76 expressway, running from Zalaegerszeg to the M7 motorway and the work will include building the Hollád interchange.

The 8.6km section comprises several overpasses, including a reinforced concrete bridge over the river Zala as well as two railway bridges. The construction works are expected to last four years. “An especially challenging aspect of this project are the marshes and moors along the planned route consisting of soft silt and clay. This makes proper ground treatment and conditioning especially important,” said Thomas Birtel, CEO of STRABAG.
