The head of Bratislava’s transport committee has said several companies involved in construction work for the D4 bypass are suspected of not disposing waste properly.

Jozef Uhler, chairman of the committee and the vice mayor of Jarovce, a borough of Bratislava, made the comments to the Slovakian newspaper, Hospodárske Noviny, a daily economic newspaper.

Slovakia has had to defend itself over questions over environmental issues before, including in early 2012 when the 2465 European Commission took it to task over road construction environmental assessments. The EC urged Slovakia to tighten up its environmental impact assessment processes, saying there were concerns over waste disposal work during the 2007-2010 road-building programme, according to a report at the time in the newspaper The Slovak Spectator.
