The Slovak government is exploring options for road financing after 2020, according to the media.

Money will be scarce after that date and up to €11 billion will be needed for motorways in the south and east. Projects include the R4 Presov bypass, D1 Turany-Hubova, D3 Zilina, Brodno-Kysucke Nove Mesto and the D1 Kosice to the eastern border.

Earlier this year, the government announced that a key stretch of the D3 will open in the third quarter of 2017 after several month’s delay. The 4.25km section runs from Zilina Strazov to Zilina Brodno is costing close to €306 million to construct. The consortium comprises the contractors 3281 Eurovia, 981 Hochtief and SMS Banska Bystrica.
