Slovakia highway project on track

Construction of the D1 highway stretch connecting Presov and Kosice in Slovakia is said to be well underway.

Construction of the D1 highway stretch connecting Presov and Kosice in Slovakia is said to be well underway. Around 50% of the work required has so far been completed and the stretch could be ready for traffic in the second quarter of 2021. Driving the tunnel section at Presov commenced three months ahead of schedule. In all the work is costing €327.4 million, with €278.3 million being provided by the EU.

  • Financial setbacks beset Slovakia’s highway development

    Slovakian highway company NDS says that construction of the 13km Turany-Hubova highway may not be started in 2012. The previous Transport Ministry plan was to call the tender for this stretch in summer 2012.     Bidding is strong for the works to construct two bypasses in Slovakia. The road links are the 14.5km long northern Kosice bypass and the 8km Presov bypass. Both bypasses form part of the D1 motorway. The estimated value of both projects is nearly €580 million. Slovakia’s national motorway company NDS opened the bids for the Presov by-pass before the end of 2015. A consortium comprising local firm Duha and Salini Impregilo is amongst the bidders for the work.
