The authorities in the Chinese city of Shijiazhuang have major plans to develop its road infrastructure. The aim is to build 72.5km of highways, 46km of trunk roads and 230km of minor roads to connect with the surrounding rural areas.

A budget of close to US$830 million has been set for the road development programme. Work for two of the highway projects is expected to account for $512.5 million of the budget. These are the new expressway connecting Shijiazhuang with Tianjin, a distance of around 314km, and for the south ring expressway.

Shijiazhuang is the largest city in Hebei Province and lies around 266km South West of China’s capital, Beijing.
