Serbia pushes ahead with Nis-Pristina route into Kosovo

The Serbian government has announced that work on the new highway from Nis to Pristina, capital of neighbouring Kosovo, is expected to start next year. The motorway will eventually connect Serbia and Albania, to the west of Kosovo, ensuring a main fast transport route for the western Balkans region. Details have not been disclosed but the cost is likely to be around €800 million.

    The Swiss Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) has awarded Poyry detailed engineering planning work for the upgrading of operational and safety equipment in two major tunnels on the A2 motorway.     In Albania the government is giving its approval for an €80million (US$104.4million) loan being provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB). The project is for the Fier bypass, which forms part of the Tirana–Vlora highway. The project has faced a series of delays since work commenced a number of years ago.
