Serbia-Bosnia highway project funding being secured

The necessary financing package for Serbia’s key highway project is now being secured. The Belgrade to Sarajevo highway is already under construction, with 60km of the link having been built so far. The existing section of the highway connects Obrenovac with Ljig, while work on the southern stretch of the route is due to commence shortly. Serbia has taken loans worth €3 billion for its share of the project, with the Turkish Government and various Turkish banks being directly involved in supporting the works

The necessary financing package for Serbia’s key highway project is now being secured. The Belgrade to Sarajevo highway is already under construction, with 60km of the link having been built so far. The existing section of the highway connects Obrenovac with Ljig, while work on the southern stretch of the route is due to commence shortly. Serbia has taken loans worth €3 billion for its share of the project, with the Turkish Government and various Turkish banks being directly involved in supporting the works. However Bosnia is finding it more complex to secure the necessary funding, due to its rules on concession projects.

The Danube coast project and the Corridor 11 highway project have been identified. Some €400-€450 million of Chinese financing could be made available to Serbia for highway projects following the most recent series of discussions.     Funding has been secured for a major highway project that will help revitalise Bosnia’s economy. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has signed a deal that will supply a finance package worth €210 million. Coming in the shape of a loan, this will be utilised to help pay for the Doboj ring road, which will form part of the Corridor 5C highway link.

    In Serbia plans are moving forward for the Corridor 11 highway. The contract for the 48km of highway looks set to be carried out under a concession model by Chinese companies. The deal will also involve the 103km Obrenovac-Preljina highway. The cost of the Corridor 11 highway project has not yet been disclosed. A decision has yet to be made regarding the Horgos-Belgrade-Pozega highway. Part of this route was to be built under a concession awarded to Alpine and Porr and this deal included work on some 250km
