Russia’s road development programme is being planned

Russia’s Transport Ministry is setting out its plans for a major programme of road development. Called the Safe and High-Quality Roads national project, this programme of works will be for the 2021-2030 period.

The budget calls for a massive US$174.14 billion being spent on improving Russia’s road network. The aim of the programme is to repair, maintain and upgrade some 60% of all the regional roads in Russia, as well as the links between major population centres.

The programme is intended to ensure that all urban locations with a population over 20,00 or more will benefit from Federal funding to improve roads.

The new roads connecting to Domodedovo Airport are required for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. But with Russia cutting its federal budget for road development, the projects have halted.
