Russian road development programme

Russia is planning a major programme of transport development works. Road improvements will figure highly in the plans.

A budget in excess of US$129.3 billion has been set for transport improvements across the country. Repairs will be carried out to 16,000km of roads, while 1,700km of new roads will be built.

International transport corridors will benefit from the budget. One of the projects bring prioritised will be the road link through Russia connecting Europe with China.

    New state-owned roads are opening in Russia for 2019. The state-owned road firm Avtodor is to see its network grow by 202km by the end of 2019. The key link opening for traffic will be the new M11 highway connecting capital Moscow with St Petersburg. The final stretches of the M11 are now being finished. Of the 202km to be finished by the end of 2019, around 56km have been built already and 103km will be completed shortly.     There is a lot of work to do on Bulgarian roads, but the government has plans to increase the length of highways built each year as Krasimir Krastanov reports. Bulgarian roads with a pavement make up 98.4% of all the country's roads, while 92.5% of them have an asphalt surface and 82.8% of them are able to carry 10tonnes/axle.
