Road upgrades planned for Mindanao in Philippines

A series of road upgrades is planned for Mindanao in the Philippines. A loan worth US$380 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will help pay for the works. In all, the programme of road upgrades will cost $498 million however. Eight roads in Zamboanga Peninsula totalling 277km will be upgraded along with three bridges in Tawi-Tawi Province that will be improved.

The country's Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has given clearance to six projects worth a total of US%813.33 million.     The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) will consider approval of seven Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects, two of them highways, by the end of this month. The highways are the US$516 million Manila connector road and the $209 million Plaridel toll road. A report by the Manila-based Business World Online newspaper said the deals are worth around US$3.65 billion.
