One of the largest projects is the 3,000km northern international highway from Sullana, a city and urban area of around 440,000, to the border with Ecuador. The co-financed private project, which will need around US$764 million, is a three-lane highway with 100 bridges and three sections of double carriageway

The highway is expected to be finished by the end of next year.

General elections took place on 10 April to determine the president, vice-presidents, composition of the Congress and the representatives of the Andean Parliament.
