The Polish ministry of infrastructure announced that it will retender for building the last 27km section of the Expressway S14 around Lodz.

Poland’s road authority 1361 GDDKiA said it was not satisfied with the offers it had received during the tender. They were higher than the budget by around €59 million, reaching upwards of €487 million.

Local governments reportedly fear that construction delays could disrupt the Specialised Expo from June to September, 2022 if the city of Lodz were to be chosen. The wining city will be chosen this November.

The 42km Expressway S14 will, when completed, be the western bypass of Łódź.

Construction of the first 9.6km section forming the bypass of Pabianice began in 2010 and was fully open by mid-2012. Another 4.1km extension to the south connecting it to the Expressway S8 was opened April 2014.

The tender for building the remaining 27km was opened in October 2015 with completion expected around 2019.

Specialised Expos, known officially as International Recognised Exhibitions, can be organised in the interval between two World Expos and are designed to respond to a precise challenge facing humanity. The next Specialised Expo will from June to September this year in Astana, Kazakhstan, under the theme of future energy.
