Polish projects to go to tender

A series of important Polish road projects will be opening for tender shortly. In all the nine projects will be worth €603.3 million and stretch for a total of 138km. These project tenders will be announced by e Polish General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) before the end of 2018. The work includes improvements to the DK 18 National Road as well as ring roads for the cities of Nowy Sacz, Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski, Zawiercie and Poreba.

Nine bids have been made for the project to built a 17km stretch of the S16 expressway, which lies close to the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad. This section will connect Borki Wielke and Mragowo and the work also includes construction a bypass around the latter. The bids range in value from €164.4 million up to €234 million. Work is expected to commence in 2020 and take until 2023 to complete.

  • Romania to build wildlife bridges over the A1

    Romania’s transport ministry says it plans to build animal crossings over the A1 motorway between Lugoj and Deva in the west of the country. The crossings will be over a 9km section of the A1 and cost around €180 million, said Razvan Cuc, the transport minister. nTenders will be issued for both the design and construction with work to start by the end of the summer. When completed, likely by the end of this year, the A1 will be 576km long and run across Romania in a south-east to north-west direction.

    Poland’s General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) says that the country has suffered some €195 million worth of road damage due to recent flooding. The problem is expected to grow once the cost of damage to further roads in the north of the country can be ascertained. The damage includes links under construction at present.
