Tri-City incorporates the three cities in Pomerania - Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot, as well as surrounding minor towns. They are situated along the coast of Gdańsk Bay on the Baltic Sea. The regional population is more than 1 million.

Meanwhile, investment and development minister Jerzy Kwiecinski said that the S6 dual carriageway between Szczecin and Tri-City will be completed in its entirety by 2023.

Part of the route - a 150km central section from Koszalin to near Wejherowo - will be built on a public-private partnership basis with the state paying for use of the road. There will, however, be no tolls, according to Polish media.

The European Union is supporting the S6 project in northern Poland with a subsidy of around €232 million.
