Poland commits to more S17 work, including Chelm bypass

Poland has approved financing for two road projects worth nearly €1.2 billion in total, including a ring road around Chelm. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Construction said there will also be dual carriageway section for the S17 between Piaski and Hrebenne.

Poland has approved financing for two road projects worth nearly €1.2 billion in total, including a ring road around Chelm.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Construction said there will also be dual carriageway section for the S17 between Piaski and Hrebenne.

Chełm, an industrial city with around 65,000 people, is  south-east of Lublin and around 25km from the border with Ukraine.

The Expressway S17 runs from Warsaw through Lublin to the border with Ukraine at Hrebenne/Rava-Ruska. It runs parallel to National Road 17 which it will eventually replace.

These funds had been set for use in specific road building projects, but the Ministry of Infrastructure wants to use the funds for other road schemes, preventing the money from being wasted where certain road projects are delayed.
