A loan should help pay for a road improvement project in Paraguay. The country’s ministry of finance will negotiate for a loan of US$180 million with the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB).

The loan will be used to carry out resurfacing work on a 160km stretch of Route PY12. The section needing resurfacing lies between Chaco'i and General Bruguez.

The work will help improve transport in the region. Route PY12 connects with Chaco'I where a new bridge spanning the Paraguay River is also being planned that will connect with Asuncion.

Building the $134 million bridge is expected to take 36 months to carry out. This project is also being financed with help from the IADB. The bridge will measure 450m in length but is being redesigned to allow additional clearance for vessels passing underneath.
